If you don’t know much about La Tasha Shevlin, you will soon! La Tasha joined UpTurnships as Associate Executive Director in March 2020, and will succeed Julie as Executive Director of UpTurnships in February. Her bold vision includes the current expansion of UpTurnships into year-round programming, and the creation of an Employer Equity Partnership, which will prioritize workplace and hiring equity throughout the Twin Cities.
La Tasha brings a wealth of experience from past roles in workforce development, college access, higher education, and training. Most recently, La Tasha was the Director of College Success at College Possible, where she led the strategic development, implementation, and growth of College Possible Minnesota’s college programming by building strong and nurturing relationships with college and university partners. She was the Director of Adult Employment & Training at East Side Neighborhood Services where she led various employment and training programs. Additionally, La Tasha worked with the University of Minnesota, Normandale Community College, Project for Pride in Living, Minneapolis Employment & Training, and AchieveMpls in career and financial development roles.
As a product of a summer job program specializing in inner-city youth employment in Houston, TX, La Tasha sees career development and employment as a fundamental need for individuals and communities to thrive. Her most rewarding career experiences have been creating workforce solutions that are equitable to all community members.
La Tasha holds a Masters in Education and B.S. in Human Resource Development from the University of Minnesota. She holds a Minnesota State Teaching License. She gives back to the community as a member of the University of Minnesota Alumni Society Board for the College of Education and Human Development. In addition, she volunteers with the Girl Scouts Council of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys.
La Tasha loves the theater and can be found at the Guthrie in her free time. She shares her love for the arts with her children. Her eldest daughter, Shannon, is an artist and spends her free time drawing anime. Her son, Ian, studies piano and saxophone. And her youngest daughter, Shelby, studies ballet and hopes to follow in Misty Copeland’s footsteps.
